The tragic story of baby Ollie Davis, who died after suffering a “snapped neck,” has taken a new turn as his father, Michael Davis, was sentenced to life in prison. The young child was found lifeless in his crib in Leicester in October 2017, with disturbing injuries including more than 20 broken ribs and fractures to his skull, collarbone, arms, and limbs. Michael Davis, aged 29, was convicted of his son’s murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm, while Ollie’s mother, Kayleigh Driver, aged 31, was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child and causing serious physical injury. The two faced a two-month trial where it was revealed that Ollie’s “neck was snapped between four and eight days prior to his death.”
The judge sentenced Davis to life in prison with a minimum term of 22 years. The judge described the murder as involving a “devastating” fatal spinal injury and other injuries that are typically seen after a “high energy car crash.” It was concluded that Davis had inflicted all of the injuries in four overnight episodes of violence and showed “callous indifference” to Ollie’s suffering by not seeking medical help. The judge expressed certainty that Davis had become frustrated and angry, leading to the violent acts, including the fatal neck injury.
On the other hand, Ollie’s mother, Kayleigh Driver, was cleared by the jury of murder and causing grievous bodily harm. However, she was convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child and causing serious physical injury. The judge sentenced her to seven years in prison, highlighting how she must have heard Ollie’s cries after the assault due to being present in the same room. The tragic details of the case exposed the horrific abuse that the innocent baby endured, leaving him with broken bones, brain injuries, and a total of 37 fractures.

They described Ollie as a “little ray of sunshine” with big blue eyes who came into their world on September 21, 2017.
