The Legacy of Anne Chaisson at Hamptons Film Festival

Anne Chaisson, the executive director of Hamptons Film Festival presenting organization HamptonsFilm, has announced her decision to step down from her position after this fall’s edition of the festival. Her departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the festival’s history, as she has been instrumental in the growth and development of the organization over the past several years.

Chaisson’s involvement with HamptonsFilm began as a producer of films screened during the festival. She later went on to co-found and co-chair the organization’s advisory board in 2002 before assuming the role of executive director in 2012. During her tenure, Chaisson spearheaded a number of initiatives aimed at expanding the festival’s reach and impact. These initiatives included launching programs such as Compassion, Justice and Animal Rights and Air Land and Sea Signature, as well as introducing new awards to honor individuals in the creative space.

Under Chaisson’s leadership, the Hamptons Film Festival has grown into a prominent event on the fall circuit since its inception in 1992. The festival’s success can be attributed in part to the influential figures in the industry and adjacent sectors who frequent the Hamptons during the summer months. Additionally, the festival has benefited from the region’s overall growth and transformation, with places like Montauk evolving from a quiet fishing village to a bustling tourist destination.

Challenges Faced

Throughout her time as executive director, Chaisson faced challenges such as navigating the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the festival. She successfully implemented virtual events and drive-ins as temporary solutions to ensure that the festival could continue amidst the uncertainty and restrictions brought about by the pandemic.

Looking Ahead

As Chaisson prepares to depart from her role, Randy Mastro, Chairman of the Board for HamptonsFilm, plans to appoint a subcommittee to conduct a national search for her replacement. The new executive director will be selected following this year’s October festival, with preparations already underway for the 11-day event scheduled for October 4 to 14.

Anne Chaisson’s departure from HamptonsFilm marks the end of a transformative chapter in the festival’s history. Her leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping the festival into what it is today, and her contributions will be remembered and celebrated for years to come. We wish her the best in her future endeavors and look forward to seeing how the festival continues to thrive under new leadership.
