Samsung’s recent releases of the Galaxy S24 series sparked speculations about the company’s chipset plans for the upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup. Initially, it was rumored that Samsung would transition to using solely Exynos SoCs for the Galaxy S25 series. However, a recent report has contradicted this claim, stating that Samsung will once again adopt a strategy of splitting its Galaxy S25 smartphones between Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets.
According to a report by DigiTimes Asia, Samsung is set to continue using a combination of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and its in-house Exynos 2500 chipsets for the next generation of flagship Galaxy S series smartphones. While specific details about which phones in the lineup will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 have not been disclosed, it is expected that the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature the Qualcomm SoC in all markets. On the other hand, other models such as the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ may utilize either the Exynos 2500 chipset or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, depending on the region of sale.
In an effort to bridge the performance gap between Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets, Samsung has been working on enhancing the capabilities of its Exynos processors. Recent claims suggest that the company’s Exynos 2500 chipset surpasses the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in terms of both CPU and GPU performance. Despite these assertions, the lack of concrete performance metrics and benchmark numbers leaves room for skepticism.
The Exynos 2500 chipset is rumored to consist of a powerful Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.2GHz or higher, along with three Cortex-A730 cores operating at speeds of up to 2.5GHz. Additionally, the chipset is said to feature two more Cortex-A730 cores and four Cortex-A520 cores, with clock speeds not yet disclosed. These specifications indicate a significant leap in performance compared to its predecessors.
On the other hand, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset has been confirmed to debut with a custom Oryon CPU at the Snapdragon Summit in October. This chipset is poised to power upcoming flagship Android smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S25, Xiaomi 15 series, and Asus Zenfone 11. With promises of enhanced performance, efficiency, and features, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset aims to set a new standard for high-end mobile devices.
