Lionsgate has recently made a significant acquisition in the form of the John Carney directed musical comedy, Power Ballad. This upcoming film stars the talented duo of Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas and is set to be released in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland.
The storyline of Power Ballad is centered around a washed-up wedding singer portrayed by Rudd and a young rockstar played by Jonas. The plot unfolds as the young rockstar leverages the wedding singer’s songwriting skills to rejuvenate his own musical career.
Adam Fogelson, the Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed his excitement for the movie, highlighting the combination of Carney’s creative talents, the marketable concept, and the stellar cast. The production team behind Power Ballad includes Anthony Bregman, Peter Cron, Robert Walpole, Rebecca O’Flanagan, and John Carney. This team has previously worked together on Carney’s film, Flora and Son, which was acquired by Apple TV+ for a significant sum.
The rights for Power Ballad were secured by Lionsgate, with Charlotte Koh and Lauren Bixby leading the acquisition. The negotiations were overseen by Kaycee Holcomb from Lionsgate’s Business Affairs. In terms of representation, Rudd is managed by Lighthouse Management & Media, UTA, and Jackoway Austen.
