Is Richard Simmons Really Against a Biopic About Himself?

Pauly Shore has expressed doubts regarding the authenticity of remarks attributed to Richard Simmons about not wanting a biopic to be made about himself. Shore, who is planning to both star in and executive produce a biopic about Simmons, has stated that he believes the pre-death social media posts critical of him taking on the role could have been fake. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Shore mentioned that he feels Simmons actually wanted him to proceed with the biopic. He even went as far as to question the legitimacy of the social media posts, stating, “I don’t even know if that was him tweeting the whole time. I don’t know who that was.”

In response to Shore’s comments, Richard Simmons’ staff took to social media to address the situation. They directly refuted Shore’s claims and clarified that Simmons himself had indeed written the critical posts concerning the unauthorized biopic. Simmons’ brother, Lenny, corroborated this by stating, “Dicky absolutely wrote his own posts. He worked on them a week in advance, going over and over them to get the right message,” dismissing any doubts about the authenticity of the social media statements.

Initially, Pauly Shore was set to play Richard Simmons in a film titled “The Court Jester.” However, Simmons openly expressed disapproval of the portrayal in the movie. He explicitly stated, “You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read.” Simmons also revealed that he no longer has a manager or a publicist, distancing himself from any potential involvement in the biopic project.

The conflicting statements from both Pauly Shore and Richard Simmons raise questions about the true intentions behind the proposed biopic. While Shore believes Simmons supported the idea, Simmons and his staff have clearly stated otherwise. The uncertainty surrounding the authenticity of social media posts and the lack of permission from Simmons himself add further complexity to the situation. It remains to be seen whether the biopic will proceed as planned or if additional obstacles will arise in the future.
