Senator Bernie Sanders recently voiced his disapproval of Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposed tax plan, specifically her 28% tax rate on long-term capital gains. Sanders believes that this proposed rate is too low and does not go far enough in taxing the wealthy. He expressed his diverging views on the matter during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” stating that he would suggest a higher rate than what Harris has proposed.
Sanders emphasized the need for a stronger economic agenda that speaks to working people and criticized Harris for not taking a more progressive stance on taxing the wealthy. He highlighted his own campaign proposal from 2016, where he aimed for a capital gains tax rate of 54.2%, significantly higher than what Harris has put forward.
