Atlanta Falcons Make Waves with Major Acquisitions

The Atlanta Falcons have once again shown their commitment to contending in the 2024 season with the signing of free agent safety Justin Simmons. This two-time Pro Bowl selection brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team, solidifying their secondary alongside fellow Pro Bowl selection Jessie Bates III.

Simmons, who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Denver Broncos, brings a playmaking ability with his nine interceptions over the past two seasons. At 30 years old, Simmons is still considered one of the top safeties in the league and his addition to the Falcons defense addresses a significant need following an injury to starting safety DeMarcco Hellams. His arrival, along with the earlier acquisition of pass rusher Matthew Judon, signifies the Falcons’ commitment to shoring up their defense for the upcoming season.

In order to accommodate the new signings, the Falcons have restructured the contract of offensive guard Chris Lindstrom, moving part of his base salary to create cap space. This maneuver allows the team to comfortably bring in both Simmons and Judon while maintaining financial flexibility moving forward. With a revamped defense and an already potent offense led by quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Falcons are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

General manager Terry Fontenot and the Falcons front office have been proactive in addressing areas of need on both sides of the ball during the offseason. By making key acquisitions like Simmons and Judon, Atlanta has sent a clear message that they are serious about competing at a high level in 2024. With a talented roster and a renewed sense of determination, the Falcons are gearing up for an exciting season ahead.
