Recently, Apple rolled out a preview of some of its Intelligence features, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools, with the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 1 update. A user who had access to these features posted a demo showcasing the Writing Tools capabilities. The user claimed that the AI was able to proofread a lengthy 2,203-word document in under two minutes. This impressive feat was demonstrated on the M2-powered iPad Pro.
In the demo video shared on X by user AppleLeaker, the Writing Tools floating window displayed various features, such as Proofread, Rewrite (with Friendly, Professional, and Concise tones), Summary, and more. The user copy-pasted a Wikipedia article about OLED, consisting of 14,760 characters, and requested the AI tool to proofread it. The AI completed the proofreading in less than two minutes, working through the text in chunks of 350 words.
The user claimed that Apple Intelligence’s character limit far exceeded that of Samsung’s Galaxy AI. While the character limit for Samsung’s AI summarization tool is between 200-4,000 characters, Apple’s tool could handle up to 9,917 characters with spaces. This significant difference suggests that Apple Intelligence may have a competitive edge in processing larger amounts of text efficiently.
Despite the impressive claims made by the user, it is essential to note that these are early days for Apple Intelligence. The demo video only showed the proofreading feature, leaving questions about the summarization and rewrite capabilities unanswered. As the Cupertino-based tech giant continues to refine and develop its AI tools, it remains to be seen if Apple Intelligence can indeed outperform Samsung’s Galaxy AI in all aspects. Only when Apple officially releases these features to the public will the true extent of their capabilities be known.
